Singapore

Singapore

"0utriggering"with the big boats

Ahhhhh Singapore is a pleasant surprise...an oasis of calm and organisation for the weary travellers!! We love it! Coming out of Indonesia it certainly strikes us as modern city full of all the mod cons.

We are blessed with the company of Melissa and Peter who look after us and relieve me of any decision making!!!

Their washing machine goes into overload as Reece washes all our stinky clothes and gets them really dry. Nothing really gets dry in Indo because of the high level of humidity, and our clothes lines have varied from the ground, the grass, rooftops, bushes, plastic sheets, railings and maybe even once, a line!!

On our first visit, we spend 5 days in Singapore

Here is a blend of cultures, Chinese, Indian and Malay all mixed in together, and of course a huge variety of expats. People living in older inner city terraces, newer areas with high rise apartments and free standing homes spread out across the island. The terrace areas are beautiful in their colonial style and in Little India, I delight in the brightly coloured facades. The modern inner city buildings are truly amazing and I’m always a sucker for interesting architecture and pretty lights.

Deepervali is being celebrated in Little India and the decorations are stunning. The area is a riot of colour and activity. The women, dressed in their saris are madly buying new saris, gold, festive decorations and food... I love this place...think we better go to India....and the food...!!!

The botanical gardens are simply stunning and the orchid garden simply blows us away. It’s not only the large variety of orchids, but the sheer number of them, hundreds in full bloom of each variety and colour. It helps having a “tissue culture” centre attached to your garden. The ginger and heliconia garden is just as spectacular with a few we have at home and other wonderful varieties. A great collection of trees, weird and wonderful shrubs in flower and bonsai, including a banana plant. ....Why?

Structure, organisation and....a few rules!! They all seem common sense but they posted everywhere just in case you forget......

Eating in the Tekka Centre food hall is great. Every stall selling a different dish. Tasty and cheap.......

We return again and will possibly return a third time as it’s a great place to pass though and all the better because I get to spend time with Melissa.

Orchard Road

Yes we return a third time after our visit into Malaysia and Borneo.

Ah home again..... this time to the incredible decorations that light up Orchard Road. For a lover of Christmas sparkle, like myself...Orchard Rd is the pinnacle!!! Baubles stars lights...pretties!..its all here. There’s a lack of Santas and nativity scenes..it’s just all pretty lights!

Ship in the sky. 59 floors up.

Melissa and Peter take us up to Ku De Ta up on top of the casino building. It’s a night club in a ship that caps the three buildings.....bizare, but incredible architecture. When you’re up there its 59 floors up and there a small glass railing around the outdoor ‘decks’ of the ‘ship’. A swim over edged pool adds to the scene..swim up to the edge its like you’re swimming over!! The view is spectacular..the night lights are excuisite....the only thing missing is Peter, who’s still driving around looking for parking!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!xxx
